A Tarot Thanksgiving – Part 2

Posted by Bonnie Cehovet

In Part 1 of A Tarot Thanksgiving each of the Major Arcana archetypes spoke about offering thanks for their skills and abilities. In Part 2 we are going to look at what the giving of thanks means to us as individuals, how it impacts our lives in a meaningful way on a daily basis.

Thankfulness Within Family

The area of life that is probably closest to us is that of our family. Through the ups and downs of life, we may forget to give thanks to those closest to us. Here are some things to think about, and some ways in which to give thanks for family:

  1. Say “Thank You” when a family member says something nice, or does something helpful.
  2. Cook with heart. Your emotions will go into the food that you are cooking – make sure that you cook in a prayerful, thankful manner.
  3. Say a short prayer of thanks before eating, or ask for a short moment of silence so that each person may give thanks in their own way.
  4. Clean up after a meal with a thankful attitude for the time spent with family, and for the bountiful food consumed.
  5. Do something to help a family member without their having to ask.
  6. Keep a calm atmosphere within the home. This is a way of giving thanks for the home itself.

Thankfulness Within Community

  1. Support your favorite local charity, through the gift of time or money.
  2. Give whatever you do not need to local organizations such as the Salvation Army. Make sure that what you give is usable, and in good repair.
  3. Smile at a stranger.
  4. Say a kind word.
  5. Occasionally gift the people that make your life better … your babysitter, your hairdresser, your mechanic, your mailman.
  6. Give thanks to the businesses in your community by recommending them to others.
  7. Help to clean up your community by picking up litter, painting over graffiti, cleaning a stream, or whatever else needs to be done.
  8. Clean up natural areas as a thank you to Mother Nature for sharing her beauty and peace.
