While it might make sense in terms of trying to stem the Middle Eastern unrest, it really makes no sense in real-world terms. In addition, the last sentence in the article should have clued folks in that this was just a parody: (Sunday Humor article at Dawnwires.com are meant to humor our readers. They may or may not be the truth).

The parody that claimed dozens of newspapers and blogs in the Middle East was posted at DawnWires on Sunday, Feb. 27. The article suggested that King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia was planning to buy Facebook, for $150 billion, to quell the unrest in the Middle East.

The initial paragraph of the spoof said...

(Insert Your Name Here) : Vampire Slayer!

By Bob Makransky

If you have ever returned home to find your place burglarized or vandalized, then you know that feeling of violation – like actually having been raped – that pervades the scene. You feel dirty and slimed-on. Magicians say that this feeling is a “light fiber” – like a curse – left by the burglar to suck your energy (your anger and fear at your own helplessness and vulnerability) . Magicians believe that that is what the burglar was really after – not whatever it was he stole, but rather your anger and fear – which he can suck through the line he left there like soda through a straw.

In fact, these light fibers – which emerge from a person’s navel and form an egg-shaped aura around the physical body – are visible to psychic people; that is to say, to people who are born with or have developed this faculty. See Barbara Brennan’s book Light Emerging, which contains vivid drawings of what these lines look like to people with psychic vision. Carlos Castaneda’s books also discuss light fibers at great length and detail, as does my book Thought Forms. The point is, that when we talk about vampires, we’re not talking about Transylvania, we’re talking about everyday society: abusive parents, spouses, teachers, bosses, cops, airport officials, etc. Any bad faith; bullying; lying; sneakiness; even gossiping behind someone’s back; is quite literally a vampirization of energy. Black magic is what everybody is doing to everyone else all the time, beneath a superficial veneer of social niceties and tea-party hypocrisy.

Magicians say that the idea of other people’s “webs” is no metaphor: that everybody is tied up with everyone else in the universe by fibers of light. In normal human relationships there is a give and take of energy (love) through these light fibers, which is what happens when people are making each other feel good. However, there are people who use these fibers only to take, not to give. These are the black magicians...

Police called to settle extraordinary village 'tank' row

Residents in a quiet village are embroiled in an extraordinary neighbourhood row after a military enthusiast bought a £10,000 tank and parked it outside his home.

The huge green tanklike crane, designed to carry out battlefield repairs, has been sitting in a lay-by since new owner Nicholas Kravchenko drove it there last week.

Residents living in the normally tranquil area of Wolvercote, near Oxford, Oxon, have branded the machine an ''eyesore''.

Police have now been called in to settle the "neighbourhood dispute" amid claims the £10,000 tank was intimidating locals.

The enthusiast bought the former Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) armoured vehicle second-hand to drive it for his own pleasure to display it at shows and charity events.

Mr Kravchenko, a retired army engineer, is now refusing to move the four-tonne camouflaged vehicle, which came complete with caterpillar tracks and take up three-and-a-half normal parking spaces.

''I can go out and drive it any time I like. There's no law to stop anyone having 10 tanks," he said.

''The council have not said it's anti-social and the police would have been straight on to me if it was parked illegally.

''It's not intimidating, because it's a square box with a Rolls-Royce engine in it and it doesn't stick out in the road.''

Mr Kravchenko, who calls himself "Tank Man", claimed he was the victim.

"I'm fed up with it," he said.

"I can go out and drive it any time I like. There's no law to stop anyone having 10 tanks.

"The council have not said it's anti-social and the police would have been straight on to me if it was parked illegally.

"It's not intimidating, because it's a square box with a Rolls-Royce engine in it and it doesn't stick out in the road."

He has told neighbours he spent more than £10,000 on the ex-Cold War armoured military crane.

He said that the tank-tracked vehicle was used by the British Army during the 1960s and was "very rare".

Magick: Warlock isn't a dirty Word (pt. 2)

Warlock isn’t a dirty Word (pt. 2)

by Rowan Pendragon

The largest accepted definition of a warlock within the modern magickal community, especially among the Wiccan community, is that of “oath-breaker”.  When you ask most Wiccans and many other Pagans about the word most will react with a feeling of disgust, often saying things like no self-respecting Witch would ever call themselves a Warlock.  But the fact of the matter is this isn’t as simple as that.  The definition of warlock as “oath-breaker” is largely a Christian definition that came along far later than the suggested origins of the word itself.  It’s also nothing new to see some men in the magickal community trying to take back the word Warlock in the same way that women were empowered by writers like Starhawk to take back the word Witch.  Much like we have worked with that word there are men working to turn around the negative publicity and history tied to “warlock” in order to create a more true definition of the word rather than the definition and image imposed by the church.

So what does warlock really mean?  Where does the word come from and why do we always give it that definition of “oath-breaker”?

The word warlock is believed to have three different meanings which are connected to two different origins, an Anglo-Saxon word “waerloga” and an Old Norse word “vardlokkur”.  There is the Anglo-Saxon “oath-breaker”, which we all hear quite often.  The other is from the Scottish word for “cunning man” or “male witch”; interestingly it’s quite common to hear the word warlock defined by Wiccans and Pagans as a Scottish word meaning “‘oath-breaker” or “traitor” though that definition isn’t of Scottish origin.  And the last, and most compelling, is from the Old Norse word “vardlokkur”.  We’ll be looking at that one at length; let’s start with getting the Saxon and Scottish history worked out...

SAO PAULO (AP) - Firefighters say they have removed a 5-foot-long alligator who was hiding behind a couch after floodwaters washed it into a home in northern Brazil.

Capt. Luiz Claudio Farias of the Parauapebas city fire department says that when the floodwaters receded on Tuesday, a woman saw her 3-year-old son petting something behind the couch. It was an alligator.

He says "she snatched the boy away and called" firefighters.

Farias said Wednesday the alligator was apparently well fed. "If he was hungry he could have seriously hurt or even killed the boy."

The alligator was taken to an environmentally protected area near the city and released into a river.

Magickal Energy

Llewellyn Unbound

by Donald Michael Kraig

Some of the most advanced work and theories when it comes to magick are currently appearing in blogs on the web. Because much of this is “cutting edge,” there are going to be disagreements. As long as these are arguments based on logic (a series of premises or ideas that lead to a conclusion) as opposed to simple personal attacks (“You’re wrong and your mother dresses you funny”), this is a good thing. People present their arguments, the logic goes back and forth, and people reading the information can come to their own conclusions.

Recently there has been a spate of posts debating the value and even the reality of what is commonly called “magickal energy” and working with that energy. One of the earliest comments that started this “bloghaha” is in this post (WARNING: contains adult language and may not be safe for work) by Frater A.I.T. His basic idea is stated in his headline, that if your personal practice doesn’t include energy work, you’re not doing a good job.

Rufus Opus, in his blog post here (again, watch out for the language!), correctly points out that classic books such as Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult [Philosophy], the famous Renaissance grimoires, the Corpus Hermeticum, and many others do not have instructions on energy work or even visualization. Frater A.I.T. responds in a comment that in these books energy work is mentioned, but it is called “prayer.”...

This past Friday evening on the Travel Channel’s paranormal show Ghost Adventures the team took to the streets of Salem, MA to do some investigations at the Witch House and the Lyceum restaurant.  After the show aired it was interesting to me, though not entirely a surprise, that the thing that had people talking wasn’t the investigations or the things that were going on with the team from the show, but the use of the term warlock.

Here is a clip from the show which featured Salem Witch Kelly Spangler and Christian Day, another Salem Witch who has been working to reclaim the term Warlock for the male magickal practitioner.

I really wasn’t surprised by the reactions from various parts of the magickal and Pagan community.  Since I’m on the west coast I didn’t see it until three hours after people back east did so before I had a chance to even see it I was seeing the comments and the debates on Facebook about the issue of using of the term warlock.  It also didn’t surprise me to hear people making other

But I digress…back to talking about warlocks.

Blue Balls

by LANITA MOSS

I saw something the other day that still has me scratching my…head. Elliott and I were out killing time by running errands, when we pulled into the parking lot of Target. Parked next to us was a Jeep Cherokee. It was nothing out of the ordinary in a suburban shopping mall, with the exception of one…hmm, two things. Hanging from the hitch and dangling below the bumper, was a set of balls. Bull’s balls. In our household, we refer to them as cohones.

I’ve seen these charming examples of cattle testicles before. Usually hanging from a the back of a really big, diesel pickup truck, splattered with so much dirt and dust the actual color of the vehicle is indecipherable. This particular Cherokee was clean, but, it wasn’t the actual nuts themselves that puzzled me, it was their color. They were blue.

If I had been by myself, the presence of the cohones azul would have sparked an interest and then been forgotten, but I wasn’t by myself. Immediately, a question and answer session started that I wasn’t so sure I should have with my 12-year-old daughter...

Suspected thief arrested after allegedly trying to conceal chainsaw in unusual place

CHICKASHA, Okla. — A suspected thief was taken into custody after allegedly trying to conceal a stolen chainsaw by stuffing it down his pants as one would a candy bar, according to local news reports.

Police say 21-year old Anthony Black was eyeing an Echo chainsaw, but decided that a grab and dash wasn't in the cards.

The man, who police say appeared intoxicated, took the mechanical saw from the wall and put it down the front of his pants instead, according to NBC affiliate KSHB.

While some employees initially thought Black — who by this point was walking with a noticeable waddle — was handicapped, others were suspicious.

George Graham, an employee at the Ross Seed Company, witnessed the incident, telling NBC affiliate KEOR, "I seen the bar between his legs. It was pretty obvious. Imagine it in the front of your pants."

"This is a little unique, simply because of how large the item was," Chickasha Police Assistant Chief Elip Moore explained.

Paul Horton, the hardware store's manager, told KEOR it was "the first time I've ever seen a chainsaw go down anyone's britches."

A limping Black was eventually chased from the store, ditching the chainsaw in the process.

A short pursuit ensued, with the suspected thief diving headfirst into a creek, police say.

Authorities fished Black from the shallow water, placing him under arrest.

"He could have cut himself up real good. He'd have been walking with a permanent limp," Graham explained.

The chainsaw in question was eventually returned to the store.

NBC affiliates KSHB and WAGT contributed to this report.

Facebook Cigarettes: Now Even More Addictive!

February 23rd, 2011 . By Eran Abramson

As if Facebook hasn’t been addictive enough for many teens, adults and other Internet users, a new concept surfaced which introduces the Facebook Cigarettes.

Designed by Stefan Kostic, the Facebook Cigarettes will probably way more addictive then the Social Network and could prove extremely harmful. In fact, the pack itself states on it…”sign up and die”. Is that a Poke at Facebook itself or simply stating the obvious about cigarettes?

There have been some other Facebook “products” that have been released in the real world which fans may enjoy, such as the Facebook Mug, the Like or Dislike Stamps and a really sweet concept called Facebook Chocolate.

When Man's Best Friend Is Obese

By Gwendolyn Bounds

Pets Are Getting Fatter; Owners Find It Tricky to Count Kitty Calories, Cut Kibble

For 12-year-old Buffy of Calabash, N.C., the trouble began with too much steak (and chicken and ice cream) at dinnertime. In nearby Ocean Isle Beach, six-year-old Hershey harbors a fondness for beef and cheese snacks. And 14-year-old Fridge of Longwood, Fla., gets cranky if his bowl isn't full.

The main culprit: owners who routinely overfeed pets, don't exercise them enough and are unaware of the severe, and costly, health problems caused by excess weight. Common woes include diabetes, arthritis, kidney failure, high blood pressure and cancer. Research also suggests that pets fed less over their lifetime can live significantly longer.

Now, new efforts are afoot to stem what many vets believe is the single most preventable health crisis facing the country's 171 million-plus dog and cat pets. They include software for doctors to track a pet's "Body Condition Score," a blood test that could quickly determine animals' body-fat percentage, Weight Watchers-type pet diet plans and doggie treadmills.

"Obesity in pets is almost the equivalent of smoking in human medicine," says Steven Budsberg, director of clinical research at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. "There's the high cost to people, and it's self-induced. I never met a German shepherd who could open the refrigerator or food bag and pour himself another bowl."

Max Whittaker/Prime for The Wall Street Journal

To keep a healthy weight, Folsom, Calif., beagle Daisy Mae gets walked three to four miles several days a week.

In 2010, pet owners holding insurance policies with Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. shelled out $25 million to vets for obesity-related conditions, such as ligament ruptures (about $860 to treat), disc disease ($649) and asthma ($163). At Petplan USA in Philadelphia, five of the top insurance claims all have a close correlation to obesity.

When Cindy Nunes and her husband Joe of Folsom, Calif., adopted their beagle Daisy Mae, she was 41 pounds, suffered abdominal pains and couldn't roll over. Through a special high-protein and fiber, low-fat diet that's down to one cup a day, Daisy Mae has dropped to a more normal 29 pounds and walks three to four miles several days a week. Ms. Nunes estimates she's spent upwards of $1,800 in the past two years treating Daisy Mae...
