The Greatest 'The Price Is Right' Bloopers

"The Price Is Right" has been around since 1965, and it has given away more than its share of ugly entertainment centers, useless blenders and laughably tacky two-door hatchback cars.

But really, who's watching the world's longest-running subliminal advertisement for its products? The guessing game of "The Price Is Right" has always taken a back seat to contestants wearing bizarre outfits, jumping on Bob Barker and taking him down and going berserk when they win, say, $500.

Their unpredictably (and obliviousness to the fact that millions are watching their goofiness) is what we've always loved about America's greatest game show.

Keep reading to see the craziest, weirdest, wackiest, worst-dancing-est clips in the show's 38-year history.

Heh heh ... 420. Get it? Heh heh. Funny. This guy goes all the way out to California, to the studio at some ungodly hour, miraculously gets called on to "come on down!" and what does he do? He becomes a national joke. It doesn't help that the actual retail price was hundreds of dollars more than this doofus guessed.

Being on "The Price Is Right" is terrifying enough, but then you have to remember an unfunny dweeb like Drew Carey is trying to put you at ease by making fun of how nervous you are or making bad jokes about your fellow "dude" contestants. Then again, he would look even more ridiculous if he just stood there and let this zombie woman run amok.

</object>

Fans have been arguing about this video ever since it aired in January. Did this Showcase Showdown contestant fake her fainting spell for some sort of sympathy vote? Can you faint and recover this quickly? People who are actually home all day and have nothing better to do will surely debate these questions for centuries.

</object>

Although this clip runs far too long (hey, you have better things to do), it does contain some memorable moments: "Deadliest Catch" guy Josh Silberman jumping around like a deranged orangutan, Bob Barker golfing and the winner of a brand-new car humping that brand-new car. Skip to 6:00 for the winning putt and the automotive assault. Sorry to break it to you, Bob, but "hugging" does not usually involve pelvic thrusts.

</object>

"The Price Is Right" carefully selects its contestants prior to each show based on a survey of the incoming audience. They look for high energy, interesting T-shirts and crowd-pleasing stories, such as former-military people or couples celebrating their anniversaries. Often, though, the 18 espressos haven't kicked in and there's no way of knowing how wacky people will get later on. It's a shame the image quality on this clip is so poor because you would see that this break-dancing freak looks like the love child between John Turturro and Egon. Really, you don't need to see all that clearly to make out this dancing fool scaring Bob Barker right off the freaking stage.

</object>

In one of the most memorable moments in the show's history, Barker stopped the program to introduce one of the super-smokin' models to the audience, then brought out her boyfriend, who promptly proposed right there on the air. Based on the fact that the guy didn't even bother to get dressed up for this beautiful moment, we can't say we're surprised to learn that they broke up last year.

"Science sense" list trashes celebrity health tips

By Kate Kelland

LONDON | Wed Dec 29, 2010 8:12pm EST

(Reuters) - Science campaigners laid bare some of the most dubious celebrity-endorsed health tips on Wednesday, rubbishing ideas such as reabsorbing sperm and wearing silicone bracelets to boost energy.

In an annual list of what it sees as the year's worst abuses against science, the Sense About Science (SAS) campaign group debunked diet and exercise suggestions made by actors, pop stars and others in the public eye in an effort "to help the celebrities realize where they are going wrong and to help the public make sense of celebrity claims."

In the health and fitness section, SAS noted that soccer player David Beckham and Prince William's fiancee Kate Middleton have both been spotted wearing hologram-embedded silicone bracelets which makers claim can improve energy and fitness.

It also listed a diet reportedly used by supermodel Naomi Campbell and actors Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore in which followers survive on maple syrup, lemon and pepper alone for up to two weeks. Campbell told U.S. TV host Oprah Winfrey in an interview in May: "It's good to clean out your body once in a while."

But SAS said in a statement: "Many of these claims promote theories, therapies and campaigns that make no scientific sense."

Pop star Sarah Harding told Now magazine in April that she crumbles charcoal over her food, saying: "It's doesn't taste of anything and apparently absorbs all the bad damaging stuff in the body."

Dr John Elmsley, a chemical scientist and writer asked by SAS to comment on this idea, said charcoal is known to absorb toxic molecules when used in gas masks and sewage treatment, but is "unnecessary when it comes to diet because the body is already quite capable of removing any 'bad damaging stuff'."

One of the highlights for SAS was a tip from cage fighter Alex Reid, who told The Sun tabloid newspaper in April that he "reabsorbs" his sperm to prepare for a big fight.

"It's actually very good for a man to have unprotected sex as long as he doesn't ejaculate. Because I believe that all that semen has a lot of nutrition. A tablespoon of semen has your equivalent of steak, eggs, lemons and oranges. I am reabsorbing it into my body and it makes me go raaaaahh," he said.

John Aplin, a reproductive research scientist at the University of Manchester, said sperm cannot be reabsorbed once they have formed in the testes. "In fact sperm die after a few days, and the nutritional content of the ejaculate is really rather small," he said in a comment on the SAS list.

To try and counter the effects of some of the wildest health and fitness tips, SAS published its own "easy-to-remember pointers for celebrity commentators":-

* Nothing is chemical-free: everything is made of chemicals, it's just a case of which ones

* Detox is a marketing myth: our body does it without pricey potions and detox diets

* There's no need to boost: bodily functions occur without boosting

* Energy and fitness come from...food and exercise: there are no shortcuts.

iPhone-controlled beer cannon is the robot friend of our dreams (video)

By Vlad Savov   posted Dec 29th 2010 8:48AM

If your morning's been running low on a little thing called awesomeness, hurry past the break and gorge yourself on the stuff in the embedded videos. For the more patient among you, we'll set the scene. A young chap by the name of Ryan has repurposed an old mini-fridge from his college days into a beer-firing drone, which can accept instructions on beer brand, temperature, and destination, before launching it at the target with a force of 50psi. An embedded webcam assists the iPhone user in aiming the throws, while it's also said to record every toss and tweet it out for posterity as well. If this thing could slice bread, we'd probably offer to marry it.

For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been formally studying and taking trainings in hypnosis for over a decade. I’m certified as a clinical hypnotherapist by several organizations and am also certified to teach hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis can be an incredibly powerful tool for change, and isn’t that the essence of magick? Hypnosis is not the only means of magick, nor is it necessary for magick, but it can be used as a magickal tool.

Healing Properties of Gemstones

By Tana Blum

A look at the twelve birthstones and what they signify in terms of their healing properties.

There are twelve gemstones which are particularly associated with the months of the year; they are considered to be lucky and beneficial to people born during their month. This article summarises the twelve birthstones and their healing properties

The Twelve Birthstones and Their Healing Properties

The birthstone for January is the garnet. Named after the Latin word for pomegranate, this beautiful red stone symbolises constancy. It is used in the healing of depression, toxicity, under-active thyroid and heart trouble.

The healing nature of the amethyst, the birthstone for February, is all in its name which is the Greek word for remedy a

German city pares budget deficit with "sex tax"

(Reuters Life!) - Challenged with a 100 million euro ($133 million) deficit, one western German city has introduced a day tax on prostitutes to help whittle down its budget gap.

BERLIN | Thu Dec 9, 2010 1:26pm EST

The new "pleasure tax" requires prostitutes in Dortmund to purchase a 6 euro "day ticket" for each day they work, or face a potential fine. The city estimates that the new tax will add some 750,000 euros to its coffers each year.

"Dortmund has financial problems like many cities in Germany," city spokesman Michael Meinders told Reuters. "We considered several sex taxes but this was the most practical proposal."

The new tax went into effect in August but the day tickets have not been available until this week.

An alternative proposal was to charge a 1 or 2 euro fee to anyone entering Dortmund's red-light district, but this idea got little political support, Meinders said.

Such taxes are not unusual in Germany where prostitution is legal and sex workers must pay tax on their income. Cologne introduced a 150 euro "pleasure tax" on sex workers in 2004 and later added a 6 euro day tax option for part-time prostitutes.

Squeaky-clean Singapore in toilet manners campaign

(Reuters) - Squeaky-clean Singapore needs cleaner toilets and public awareness is one way to achieve this, a civic group said at the launch of the latest stage of its LOO campaign -- Let's Observe Ourselves.

SINGAPORE | Fri Dec 17, 2010 12:28pm EST

The city-state has 30,000 public restrooms and is pushing to make 70 percent of them at least "three-star" clean by 2013.

But a survey by the Restroom Association (Singapore) (RAS) found that only some 500 of the island's public toilets overall were up to its standards of working facilities, lack of litter and odor, and the provision of basic amenities such as hand soap and toilet paper.

"For us, toilet etiquette reflects Singaporeans' culture. It tells people how civilized we are," RAS President Tan Puay Hoon told reporters on Thursday, when the association unveiled its 70-page report on public restrooms as part of a campaign to improve island-wide toilet cleanliness.

"We are a First World country and we want a gracious society to reflect that."

Under the RAS Happy Toilet Programme, toilets are rated from three to five stars. A four-star toilet should have a diaper changing station or urinal for children and a five-star should have eco-friendly features such as water-saving taps.

To call attention to its 3-year blueprint on public restroom and a public awareness program urging users to adopt proper restroom etiquette in the Heartlands area, site of many government-built apartment blocks, the RAS launched LOO@Heartlands -- the first coffee shop with a five-star toilet.

The RAS said it would also distribute packets of pocket tissues with restroom etiquette messages only to toilet visitors during peak hours at shops nearby.

"Singapore's effort in branding itself as one of the most liveable cities in Asia is exemplary," the association said in its report, which was submitted to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in September.

"Unfortunately, the cleanliness of our public restrooms has not been in tandem," the report added.

The RAS was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organization and says it is dedicated to promoting the cleanliness, design and functionality of public toilets in Singapore.

The LOO Campaign began in 2008. The RAS has also conducted the Happy Toilet School Education program and is a founding member of the World Toilet Organization and the Keep Singapore Beautiful Movement.

Don’t Let Being Resolute Ruin Your Resolutions

Llewellyn Unbound
by Donald Michael Kraig

Now that the amazing 2010 winter solstice, the 24-hour period with the least amount of sunlight, has passed (here at the Sea of Trees in So. Cal. we had rain and clouds and couldn’t see the lunar eclipse), the Sun begins to make its triumphant return. For those of you who have already had late year holidays and festivals (Diwali, Hanukkah, Yule, and , uh, Festivus) and those about to have such festivals (Christmas, Kwanzaa), I hope you have had, or will have, the best celebration ever.

And as the Sun returns, we begin to think of a better coming year with improved (or at least not deteriorating!) finances, happiness, and health. This often means changing our lives in a minor or major way. The name for the magick used to help make these changes: New Years Resolutions.

It’s Magick!

That’s right. Don’t tell your non-occult oriented friends, but New Years Resolutions (NYRs) are a simple form of magick. Some people write them down (a type of talisman). Some people stand up and state them out loud (a more direct form of magick). They combine intention and energy to get results. It’s pure and simple magick.
