HOUSTON  — A Cypress man was arrested after he wrote a fake check for nearly $1 million, investigators said.

Houston police said Romeo Kison Jr. wrote a check for $983,648.79 to a local roofing company on Monday.

The check said it was issued from the Bank of New York, which changed its name in 2007.

The check was dated Sept. 31, 2010, which doesn't exist.

Kison was also arrested Monday on a charge of forgery. He's being held in the Harris County Jail with bond set at $1,967,296.
