Orlando teen playing with gun shoots self in groin

An Orlando teen begged police to call an ambulance late Saturday after shooting himself in the testicles, according to police reports.

"I shot myself by accident," the 17-year-old boy said. "Get an ambulance."

The unidentified teenager was lying on his bed, watching TV and playing with a 9 mm. pistol about 8:30 p.m. when it fired. His 12-year-old sister summoned help by calling 911, the report stated.

"I was trying to tie the gun around my leg," he said, describing the accidental discharge to officers.

The bullet went through the scrotum and lodged in his right upper thigh, the report stated.

A Smith and Wesson pistol was found on the floor of the teen's bedroom in his family's home in the Peppertree Apartments on Mercy Drive. Five unfired cartridges were found in the weapon's magazine, the report stated.

Police are trying to determine where the teen obtained the pistol.

Orlando firefighters took the teen by ambulance to Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies, the report stated. The teen's aunt responded to the hospital but police were unable to locate his mother that night, the report stated.

The police department is recommending that the Orange-Osceola State Attorney's Office charge the victim with unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor and unlawful discharge of a firearm, the report stated. State law prohibits anyone under 18 from possessing a loaded gun unless participating in legal hunting or shooting activity supervised by an adult.

The teen's condition could not be learned Monday.

NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif.  — A 12-year-old girl says she found a naughty adult message on a piece of kids Valentine's Day candy.

"I thought it was kind of shocking," said the girl, Ciara Bush. "I was reading them, and I brought it to my mom after I saw it."

Her parents were stunned at what they saw.

"Nice T---," said Derrick Deanda, reading the reference to a woman's breasts printed on the small piece of candy.

The candy came from a pack of conversation hearts Deanda said he bought at a discount store in North Highlands, Calif.

He said he was shocked when his daughter discovered the naughty message after she opened the bag of candy.

He e-mailed the candy maker and said he got a quick response. A phone call came the next day asking him to mail the candy and the entire bag back to the company so it could investigate.

While he was shocked, Deanda said he doesn’t have any plans to sue. He just wanted to warn other parents.

"I wanted to bring it to everybody's attention," Deanda said. "Watch what you get."

The manager of the store where the candy was bought told KCRA 3 she has not had any other complaints about that candy brand.

Thieves in Malaysia steal $1.5 million worth of condoms

TOKYO — A Japanese rubber company says that nearly 85,000 boxes of its condoms have been stolen in Malaysia.

Sagami Rubber Industries Co., one of Japan's biggest condom makers, said Thursday that the boxes were en route from the factory to a port, where they were supposed to be shipped to Japan.

The company described the Jan. 26 theft as "unfortunate" and said it was the first time such a thing had happened.

The boxes contained some 725,000 individual condoms, collectively worth 121 million yen ($1.48 million).

Malaysian police are investigating the theft.
